Elusive, allusive, and a touch illusive all at once.
A new side of Petite Sirah as we chase balance in a variety known for opulence and forwardness. Co-fermented with Syrah, the 2017 Black Orchid in its core is the heavy hitter of boisterous aromatics and flavor we know and love, but with measured restraint and nuance in the form of floral aromatics and a piercing acidity. The nose offers fresh notes of blackberry and plums along with sweet notes of raspberry compote and vanilla bean. Diffusing from the glass are soft notes of cracked black pepper and lavender. On the palate a mouthwatering entry of acidity opens up into broad and velvety tannins. Ripe cranberries and blackberries overlaid with fig jam and black currants speak in volumes while a continued and consistent acidity carry these flavors into a long, fresh finish.
