More than a pittance, less than a ransom.
Another steller vintage from the historic Bien Nacido Vineyard, a year marked by a return to normal rainfall and a mild summer and hot fall. On the nose, a burst of bright and ripe cherries along with a tart stawberry tone are anchored by a saline freshness that is indicative of the cool climate these Syrah grapes were grown. Earthy and confectionary notes of cracked black pepper and tobacco leaf overlay a background of fresh leather and graphite. A tactile entry on the palate includes a berry medly of concentrated flavors along with dark saturated flavors of cassis and mocha, while the core of the wine shows spicy shishito peppers, black currants, and blueberries. Even and moderate tannins with a silky and polished complection make for a long lasting and hedonistic finish of charred meat and raspberry compote. A wine that is typically built to age, the 2017 is a rare iteration that drinks young. Drink now through 2030.
